Renault has released today initial details for its top Paris motor show concept, the Ondelios. Combining a high-end crossover with a hybrid powertrain, Renault describes the concept as a “long-distance travel-loving aerodynamic crossover born for the open road.”

Its design reminds us of the Renault Megane Coupe Concept, but not by its forms, but by opening their doors, type of gull wings, but with only one gate on each side, without distinction between front or rear seats.Power comes from a 205hp (150kW) version of the 2.0 dCi engine producing 450Nm of torque, with two 20kW electric motors at the front and rear. Powered by a lithium-ion battery, they operate in mild hybrid mode, giving the engine extra boost as required. They use a brake and boost system, recovering energy during braking then delivering it to the engine to boost acceleration. The front motor also uses fuel-saving stop-start technology.

Ondelios goes from a 0 to 100 km/h in just 7.8 seconds, driving through a seven-speed, double-clutch gearbox. Fuel consumption is 4.5 litres/100km and CO2 emissions at 120g/km.
